GOP lawmaker demands deeper investigation after $225M in alleged education fraud is uncovered

Rep. Pat Fallon, a Texas Republican, is pushing for a wider investigation after authorities uncovered what they describe as a massive $225 million fraud scheme tied to education funding. The lawmaker made the call during an appearance on a financial news program, where he stressed that the alleged fraud may only be the tip of the iceberg.

According to reports, the scheme involved the misuse of federal funds intended for educational programs, with officials alleging that money was funneled through fake vendors and shell companies. Fallon argued that current investigations have not gone deep enough and that Congress must take a more aggressive role in tracing where the money went and who authorized the payments.

"This is not just a paperwork error. This is a deliberate theft of taxpayer dollars meant for our children's education," Fallon said. He added that the Department of Education and the Justice Department need to coordinate more closely to prevent similar schemes in the future.

The congressman also tied the fraud to broader concerns about oversight in federal spending, suggesting that without stricter accountability measures, such abuses will continue. He called for hearings and subpoenas if necessary to get to the bottom of the matter.

The alleged fraud has drawn bipartisan attention, but Fallon emphasized that Republicans will make it a priority to ensure that those responsible face criminal charges. He also warned that the $225 million figure could grow as investigators dig deeper into financial records.
