Polls have closed across Howard County and election results are beginning to arrive from Tuesday's primary election. Voters turned out to decide the party nominees for several high-profile local offices, including the race for county executive and multiple seats on the board of education.
In the Democratic primary for county executive, early returns show a tight contest between the two leading candidates. Incumbent Calvin Ball is seeking a third term but faces a strong challenge from state delegate Jessica Feldmark. The winner will likely face Republican candidate Bob Cockey in the general election, as he ran unopposed in his party's primary.
The nonpartisan school board race is also drawing significant attention. With three at-large seats up for grabs, a crowded field of candidates is vying for influence over the county's public education system. Issues such as curriculum changes, school safety, and funding have dominated the campaign. Among the contenders, incumbent Jen Mallo and newcomer David Yung are leading in early ballot counts.
Voter turnout appeared moderate across the county, with some precincts reporting steady but not heavy traffic. Election officials expect final results to be certified by the end of the week. As of now, all reported numbers are unofficial until the board of elections completes its tally.
