Local community colleges are asking voters to approve a bond measure that would fund essential repairs and upgrades across three campuses. The proposal, known as Measure V, focuses on protecting affordable college education, maintaining quality job training programs, and fixing aging classrooms and laboratories. Supporters say the measure would not increase taxes by even a penny.
The three colleges serve a large share of local high school graduates. Many students choose these schools over four year universities because they offer comparable education and career training without the heavy debt. The institutions train nurses, technicians, and skilled workers who keep the regional economy running.
Years of limited funding have left buildings in need of serious attention. Leaky roofs, outdated electrical systems, and obsolete lab equipment make it harder for students to learn. Measure V would address these problems directly.
Backers argue that investing in community colleges is one of the most efficient ways to strengthen the local workforce. Students who attend these schools often stay in the area, fill critical jobs, and contribute to the community. Without repairs, programs could shrink, class sizes could grow, and access could decline.
Voters will decide the measure's fate in the coming election. Supporters urge a yes vote to keep college affordable and job training strong for years to come.
