Social justice scholar named CSUF’s Outstanding Professor

Alison Dover, a scholar whose work centers on advancing social, racial, and economic equity in secondary education, has been named California State University, Fullerton's Outstanding Professor for this academic year. The award recognizes faculty who demonstrate exceptional teaching, research, and service.

Dover, an associate professor of secondary education, focuses her research on how classroom practices can either reinforce or challenge systemic inequalities. She has developed curricula that help future teachers address issues like implicit bias, culturally responsive pedagogy, and the role of schools in perpetuating or dismantling inequity. Her work often examines how educators can create more inclusive environments for students from marginalized backgrounds.

Beyond her research, Dover is known for mentoring students and collaborating with local school districts to implement equity-focused teaching strategies. Colleagues say her impact extends beyond the university, as she frequently leads workshops for practicing teachers on integrating social justice into lesson plans.

In a statement, university officials praised Dover for her "unwavering commitment to educational equity" and her ability to bridge theory with practical classroom application. The Outstanding Professor award includes a $5,000 stipend and recognition at campus events. Dover is the latest in a line of CSUF faculty honored for pushing the boundaries of scholarship while directly serving the community.
