Rep. Himschoot talks district projects, education and fisheries

State Representative Himschoot recently sat down to discuss the legislative session, highlighting a mix of accomplishment and frustration. "What I'm most proud of is the three major bills that passed, and what I'm most frustrated about is that two of those were vetoed and we were unable to override those vetoes," Himschoot said. The lawmaker pointed to the successful passage of key legislation as a high point, but the subsequent vetoes have left unfinished business on the table.

Beyond the Capitol, Himschoot focused on ongoing district projects, including infrastructure improvements and community development efforts. Education also took center stage, with the representative emphasizing the need for stable funding for rural schools and support for local educators. The discussion also turned to fisheries, a critical industry for the region. Himschoot stressed the importance of sustainable management and protecting local fishing jobs against regulatory changes that could hurt coastal communities. With the next session on the horizon, the representative is already looking at how to build on the wins and address the setbacks.
