ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC), situated in Grasonville near Kent Island, has been a hub for living shoreline and marsh enhancement projects for over 23 years. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address climate change while promoting environmental education in the region.
The center has pioneered various innovative projects, including transforming concrete rubble from Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium into productive oyster habitats. These efforts not only improve the local ecosystem but also provide educational opportunities for the community. The center aims to engage residents, students, and visitors in hands-on learning experiences about the importance of coastal ecosystems and sustainable practices.
By showcasing the effectiveness of living shorelines and marsh restoration, CBEC serves as a model for other regions facing similar environmental challenges. The initiative underscores the critical need for proactive measures in the fight against climate change while fostering a deeper understanding of ecological stewardship among the public.
