Bob Popinski, Senior Director of Policy at Raise Your Hand Texas, recently voiced his opposition to a proposed $1 billion allocation for education savings accounts in Texas. During a discussion with journalist Jack Fink, Popinski articulated his concerns regarding the potential impact of such funding on public education.
He emphasized that historical data from other states with voucher programs suggests that expanding funding for private education options often correlates with declines in per-student funding for public schools. "Every state that has a voucher program that has expanded per student funding in public schools has gone down and that's a problem," Popinski stated, highlighting the risks associated with diverting funds from public education to private accounts.
Popinski's stance reflects a growing apprehension among public education advocates about the implications of diverting resources from traditional public schools, as they strive to maintain quality education for all students in Texas.
