A record 2,075 students signed up for the 2026 California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education, held Oct. 3 at San Diego State University. The event is designed to link students with graduate programs and help them navigate the path from undergraduate study to advanced degrees.
The forum traces its roots to 1991, when public and private universities across California joined forces to widen access to graduate education. Organizers focused particularly on groups that have historically been underrepresented in graduate schools, including low-income students and others who face barriers to continuing their education.
The gathering brought together prospective students and representatives from dozens of institutions, giving attendees a chance to explore programs, ask questions about admissions and funding, and learn what graduate study demands. Workshops and panel sessions covered topics such as preparing applications, securing financial support, and building relationships with faculty mentors.
Organizers said the record registration reflects growing interest in graduate study and a stronger push to make advanced degrees reachable for students from all backgrounds. The forum continues to serve as a central meeting point for California universities working toward that goal, and plans are already underway for next year's event.
